BLACK CHERRY NYE!!

As this very busy year draws to an end, we are getting pretty excited to tell it to “F’off” in the most polite of all ways. Next year always brings the most exciting prospects, dreams of opportunity and the nostalgia of change. What I’m trying to say is that New Years Eve is creeping up and you know that getting drunk and watching fireworks with three million other people is just about as boring as Synchronised Swimming, but thankfully there is a better option. Our friends at Black Cherry feel the same way about NYE, and decided to put on a show. Not just any show either I tell you: Bob Log III, The Art, Pat Capocci Combo, Gay Paris and Los Capitanes will be playing live, Burlesque from the brilliant Lillian Star, as well as Jamilla Deville and Kelly Ann Doll. There will be lots of drinks, wonderful people, hangovers and attractive members of both of the sexes. We don’t really need to convince you to come, we just need to remind you that this time of the year is fun and busy and we are almost booked up for the year, so book now so you don’t get upset.

Man, Thursday night was amazing. Everyone who came gets the biggest thank you! It was rad having everyone here to celebrate with us: Lauren LaRouge gave a soulful performance, creating the perfect ambience on her uke. Povi granted us the best present of all time which is hanging in the doorway as you walk in. Somehow, we managed to empty two pub-regulation keg's of beer in under three hours. As we mentioned earlier, we now sell our own hand made pomade, available in Soft, Medium & Hard. Made the traditional way using Bees Wax and other fun stuff, it isn’t water soluble. Basically this means that when you sweat, your hair stay’s put unlike some other products out there. Guys and Dolls have been striving to make it perfect for the last two years and with the help of our good friend's, we are able to share this traditional blend of pomade that is tried and tested on the very people we made it for. Come in and we can teach you how to throw it together and achieve the best results.

GUYS AND DOLLS BIRTHDAY BASH

Preparations for the guys and dolls birthday bash are well underway. We will have the brilliant tyrant of glamour and all things strange: Lauren LaRouge, performing with her Uke and dazzling all those attending with her angelic voice live in the very middle of the salon. Two years is a pretty big deal: and to celebrate we are going to be releasing our own range of Pomade in three different textures. We will also be blessed with the grace of low-brow artist Povi Pullinen; responsible for some of the scintillating masterpieces, perched upon the salon’s walls. We have spared no detail in trying to ensure that tomorrow night will be a pleasure for you to attend, and we just hope that you can return the pleasure by turning up with some friends and having fun.

Cutthroat Shave?

I’m astounded by the amount of people coming in for a Cutthroat shaves recently. The tradition of Close shaves has been around since 1680 and although I have not been doing it for that long, It’s my favorite part of Barbering. Come in for a shave or a beard trim, and see why its one of the oldest pleasures available to men.

Last Saturday, the crew at Guys and Dolls attended Black Cherry which was awesome! We had a lot of fun. We've had a couple of busy weeks here at Guys and Dolls, cut, colour and shave during the day. Lots of fun events at night, last week was Roller Derby and Miss Ink. Sure you've all heard of the term "Victory Rolls"? But, did you know that the name originally came from a fighter-plane move used during World War 2. Women during this time decided to use the name for their hairstyle to honour victourious soliders.
Everyone who has ever done an attemt to create this style knows that a fair amount of bobby pins are to be used. When the women back in the day used to create this style they would use pipe cleaners due to the lack of metal that you make bobby pins out of, the metal was used for war purposes. Pretty crafty women.

New month new ideas and new things happening at Guys and Dolls Hair by Tommy J!
We would like to start by thanking you guys and dolls for making the first two months of 2011 the fantastic months that they have been. As you know our salon phone is still not back to normal, just a quick reminder our current number is 0400 027 588.
We have got a lot of things planned for this month! 11 – 13 of March we will be working at the tattoo expo in Homebush, having a little barber shop set up next our friends from America at High Life/ Electric Heaven Tattoo, you should definitely come check us out, it will be a fantastic event with a lot of fun things happening!

Guys and Dolls in a video clip!

When Tommy was asked if he'd be ok with the guys shooting for Tim & Jean - Come Around use salon as a part of the video clip he didn't realise exactly how big it was going to be he also didn't realise he'd get to play the part of the barber. The video clip has already been on Rage and a few other music channels. Anyone who's seen it knows strait away that its Tommy J from Guys and Dolls.

We all had a great day watching it being filmed, and the boys enjoyed a few beers while in the salon.

Guys and Dolls by Tommy J attended the Rock 'n Roll Alternative Fair in tempe last Sunday side by side with Sarah from Stealth Photographics selling things from Tea cup candles and clothes to a new range of hair clips made and designed by Tommy J and Jaxon Leggs. It was a fantastically sunny day and everyone enjoyed the great music, food and shopping! Tommy J also got a Hair cut from the world famous Donnie Hawelywood from Hawelywood's in California.

Guys and Dolls were also at Black Cherry's 4th birthday celebration here's a snap of some of the salons friends having a great time!

We got a new basin! we're so happy to announce we finally got a new basin that our clients are absolutely loving! Very comfy!

Halloween is coming!!

and we're very excited for some good party times! we've got heaps of bookings for guys and dolls getting their hair done for this always fun time of year!

It looks like most of our Saturdays are also almost fully booked for November and the first weeks in December, so get in soon!

ZOMBIES!!!

Dont have much to do with hair, but we love them so, heres a few interesting things to know about zombies!

Jax did a bit of research!

BRAINS!!!!!!!!

We all know zombies from movies like "Dawn Of The Dead", "Evil Dead" and load of other movies that have been made, but what you may or may not know is that people have been talking about zombies for heaps of years!(the exact time isn't really known)

It all started around the 1900's or so we know. The first story i found was about a woman who appreared in a town 37 years after they had declared her deaseased and burried in the ground 6 feet under. So im guessing if your that far underground its gonna be pretty damn hard to get to the surface.

Before the 1900's people who practiced voodou believed that the bokor, or sorcerer has the power to kill someone then bring them back to life. But they also have control over the zombie, unlike the zombies we see in movies that are usually cause by an epidemic or hell overflowing with dead people that spill out into the world.

Being prepared!!

Well you can either take the advice or leave it depending if you believe in zombies or not. but seriously; IT WILL HAPPEN!!!! (says Jax)

Firstly, You never know when it might happen so you always need to be prepared!

1. How to kill a zombie - Stop the brain from working, by bashing it in with something or cut off the head.
2. Physcal fittness - is a must, think about it; How will you be able to run for long distances so you dont get eaten?
3. Have a Plan - even if you dont have a plan set down, have some sort of idea what you would do. Living in Australia we're kinda lucky, cause as everyone knows it will probably break out in a big country like USA, UK or JAPAN, plus were on an island which is a benfit but then the best you can do is camp out and wait till the zombies are done eating or there all dead.
4. Weapons - Another bugger about living in Australia is we dont have as much access to to weapons as other countries do, so we make the best out of what we've got. Australians love cricket, and as we know crikets bats are good for beating in zombie skulls, other sporting goods are helpful in trying to kill zombies such as; Baseball bats, ice skates, Bow and arrows(but you kinda want to be a good shot otherwise its just a watse of time and you'll die), Golf clubs and a Tennis racket. Your local harware store also will have alot of weapons.
5. If you or a friends of yours is infected - You either kill them or set them free to be a zombie! when it comes down to it if you think your not going to survive you mas as well see what the other side is like.

I hope this has helped or just given you something to read for a while, i'm not a great writter but i do love zombies and you need to atleast have it in the back of your mind.

Spring cleaning!

Guys and Dolls have just had an awesome August with people pouring through the doors were seeing heaps of new faces, and things are getting exciting down here in our little redfern salon.

The holiday season is coming up faster than we can imagine which means we'll be getting really busy! so if you need a new look or even just a trim book in soon cause its already looking busy!

Who'd have thought on the 1st of december last year we'd be where we are now with our client base constantly growing things are going fantastic and every new day brings excitment about the future.

It’s been 7 months since Guys and Dolls By Tommy J opened its doors and seven months in we are rocking the joint. Without the supporters though, Guys and Dolls would never have become what it is. We have had such a great start to our little salon and wish to give thanks to all those who got involved, supported and recommended our salon.
